(1955) who graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) in 1979 is well known for his "sculpt and carve" paint on canvas works. His canvases with their signature layered swabs of paint, thickly applied like butter with a palette knife - surprisingly are painted on site rather than in the studio - almost like a watercolour. As a result, in spite of their heavy application of pigment the artist uses to literally build the temples that peep out from the foliage of tropical Malaysia, there is an immediacy of the moment captured in these paintings.
